Planning You Week When You Have More Than You Can Handle

Because sometimes, “just do it all” isn’t the answer.

Let’s be honest—some weeks feel like too much.
There are groceries to buy, kids to teach, meals to cook, hearts to nurture, and laundry that seems to multiply overnight. And in the middle of it all, we’re trying to show up with grace and purpose.

So how do you plan a week when your to-do list is already overflowing?

Here are a few things I’ve learned when life feels like more than I can carry:

1. Start With Stillness

Before you grab a planner or write a list—pause. Breathe.
Spend just five minutes with the Lord. Ask Him:
“Lord, what matters most this week?”
You may be surprised at the peace that comes from simply laying it all down at His feet before picking it up in your hands.

2. Brain Dump, Then Prioritize

Take a blank sheet of paper and list everything—big, small, urgent, nagging. Get it all out.

Then, highlight:

  •  Top 3 priorities for the week (these move the needle)
  • Things that can wait
  • Things you can delegate (or drop)

Organizing the chaos helps shrink the overwhelm.

3. Time Block With Flexibility

Group similar tasks together and assign loose time blocks:

  • Morning: Homeschool + breakfast cleanup
  • Afternoon: Errands, chores, quiet time
  • Evening: Dinner + prep for tomorrow

Build in margins. Life with kids isn’t neat—so create room to pivot when needed.

4. Schedule Rest Like It Matters (Because It Does)

Write “Rest” into your planner like an appointment.
Whether it’s a quiet cup of tea during nap time, a Sunday afternoon walk, or going to bed early—rest is not a luxury. It’s obedience.

Your soul needs stillness. So does your family.

5. Accept That You Are Not Meant to Do It All

Some things won’t get done this week. That’s not failure—it’s faith.

God never asked you to carry more than He equips you for.
Focus on being faithful, not flawless.

When your week feels heavier than your hands can hold, lift it up.
Ask the Lord to help you walk through it with wisdom, peace, and purpose—one grace-filled step at a time.

“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
— Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

This verse gently reminds us that we were never meant to carry the weight of the world on our own. In the middle of overwhelming weeks, Christ invites us to come close—not to strive harder, but to rest in Him.

You don’t have to do it all.
Just the next right thing.

With love and clarity,
Aimee

A comforting and grounding verse for the overwhelmed heart—when life feels too full and your plate is overflowing—is:

“Be still, and know that I am God.”
— Psalm 46:10 (NIV)

This simple command holds deep peace. It reminds us that in the middle of the chaos, God is still in control. You don’t have to hustle your way to holiness or manage everything perfectly. He simply invites you to be still—to rest in Him, even when the world keeps spinning.

Here are a couple more you might also love:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
— Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
A gentle reminder that Jesus meets us in our weariness, not after we’ve finished the list.

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
— 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)
Your limitations are not a failure—they are an invitation for His strength to shine through.
