DIY Multi-Function Memo Board

You will use this memo board for years.

📝 DIY Multi-Function Memo Board — Pretty, Practical, and Personalized

Sometimes a project comes along that’s so simple and versatile, you wonder why you didn’t make it sooner. That’s exactly how I felt when I put together my first multi-function memo board—a corkboard covered in pretty fabric and crisscrossed with ribbons so I can either pin things or just tuck them in without a pushpin.

It’s the perfect blend of form and function—and so easy to make your own! You can customize it to match your space, use it for reminders, display favorite photos, or even make one as a gift for a friend.

The one I made started with a blue-framed cork board I found at Target’s Dollar Spot for just $2.50. It transformed so easily, I couldn’t believe it. But you can start with any framed cork board—thrift store find, yard sale score, or one you already have.

✂️ What You’ll Need:

  • A framed cork board (any size or color)
  • Scrapbook paper, fabric, or paint for decorating the frame
  • Mod Podge
  • Small paintbrush or foam brush
  • Fabric (enough to cover the cork with at least 1″ overhang)
  • Iron (optional but makes it neater)
  • Hot glue gun & glue sticks
  • Ribbon (optional but great for sliding in notes)
  • Scissors
  • Poster board (optional for finishing the back)

🧵 Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prep Your Frame
If possible, remove the cork board from the frame. (If it’s not removable, you can still work with it in place.)

2. Decorate the Frame
Cut scrapbook paper into 2″ strips. Apply Mod Podge to both the frame and the back of each strip, pressing them into place until the frame is fully covered.
Once dry, you can:

  • Leave as is and coat with Mod Podge for a glossy finish, or
  • Lightly sand the edges for a distressed look, then seal with Mod Podge.

3. Cover the Cork with Fabric
Lay the cork board face down on your fabric. Cut the fabric about 1″ bigger on all sides. Iron your fabric for a smooth finish. Hot glue the fabric edges to the back of the cork, folding neatly as you go.

4. Add the Ribbon Option (Optional)
This is where the magic happens—ribbons let you slide in notes or photos without pushpins! Arrange your ribbon in a crisscross pattern on the fabric front. Once you’re happy with the layout, glue the ribbon ends to the back of the cork. Trim excess ribbon.

5. Reassemble Your Board
Place the cork back into the frame. If the back looks messy and that bothers you, cut a piece of poster board to fit and place it behind the cork for a polished finish.

🌟 Ready to Hang!

I hung mine in the bathroom where I keep my calendar and daily goals—it’s become my little hub of reminders and encouragement. But this would be equally at home in a kitchen, home office, or child’s room.

The best part? You can make it uniquely yours—different fabrics, bright ribbons, painted frames, even personalized with a name or monogram.

So grab a cork board, some fabric, and a bit of ribbon, and see where your creativity takes you. It’s quick, affordable, and oh-so satisfying to hang something you made with your own hands.

Happy crafting,
