A Handprint Canvas

A Father’s Day Keepsake to Treasure Forever

✋ A Handprint Canvas – A Father’s Day Keepsake to Treasure Forever

Father’s Day is the perfect time to give a gift that says, “You’re loved. You’re appreciated. And you’re making a difference.”

When my kids were small, I wanted to capture a moment in time—a keepsake that would remind their dad of just how tiny those hands once were. So, we made this handprint canvas together. It’s simple, it’s personal, and it’s something he’ll cherish for years to come.

💛 The Poem That Says It All

Sometimes you get discouraged,
Because I am very small
And always leave my fingerprints
On furniture and walls.

But every day I’m growing,
I’ll be grown someday
And all those tiny hand prints
Will surely fade away.

So here’s a little hand print,
Just so you can recall
Exactly how my fingers looked
When I was very small.

✂️ How to Make Your Own Handprint Canvas

Materials You’ll Need:

  • Blank paint canvas (any size you like)
  • Acrylic craft paint (washable for little hands!)
  • Jute rope or string for trimming
  • Printable fabric sheet or cardstock for the poem
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Ribbon for hanging

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Canvas
Lay your blank canvas flat on a protected surface.
  2. Add the Handprints
Paint your child’s hands with acrylic craft paint and press them firmly onto the canvas. Lift slowly to keep the shape crisp. Let dry completely.
  3. Add the Poem
Print the poem on printable fabric (or cardstock) and trim it neatly. Attach it to the bottom of the canvas with hot glue.
  4. Finish the Edges
Glue jute rope or string around the poem for a framed, rustic look.
  5. Attach the Ribbon
Tie a length of ribbon into a bow and hot glue (or staple) it to the top back of the canvas for hanging.

🌿 Why I Love This Gift

A handprint canvas is more than just paint on fabric—it’s a snapshot of a moment you can’t get back. Years from now, when your “little” one towers over you, Dad can look at that canvas and remember the days of sticky fingers and big hugs.

This Father’s Day, skip the store-bought tie or mug and give something made with love. It’s the kind of gift that lasts a lifetime.

With paint on our hands and love in our hearts,
Aimee 💛
