Make Your Own Fabric Flowers
Rosies, Poppies, Posies, & Peonies
✂️ Here’s How to Make One or Many
You’ll need:
- Synthetic satin fabric (polyester works best—hello, upcycling!)
- Scissors
- Candle or lighter
- Felt (for leaves)
- Pretty button, beads, or embellishment for the center
- Needle and upholstery or silk thread
- Hot glue (optional)
Steps:
- Cut the Petals
Cut at least 4 circles in graduated sizes from your satin. They don’t have to be perfect—flowers in nature aren’t either! - Shape the Edges
With the shiny side facing the flame, carefully let the edge of each petal “kiss” the heat. The fabric will curl and seal as it melts. Keep your fingers safe and work slowly—you’ll see each petal take on a natural curve. - Layer the Rose
Stack your petals from largest to smallest, adjusting them so they look full and natural. How many layers do you dare to add? - Add the Center
Stitch on your button or add a drop of hot glue and sprinkle with beads for sparkle. - Add Leaves
Cut a couple of leaf shapes from felt and tuck them under the rose. - Attach Your Flower
Stitch or glue your finished rose to your accessory of choice.
The finished piece is so much more beautiful in person—the soft curl of the petals, the shimmer of the fabric, and the personality it adds to anything you put it on.
